JAKES Day set for Saturday

MANSFIELD -- Young aspiring fishermen, archers, and shooters will have a chance to practice their hand at their sports at the annual JAKES Day on Saturday.

The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center Discovery Area in Mansfield. Activities that focus on wildlife, conservation efforts and outdoor recreational opportunities in Georgia. Kids can participate in archery, fishing, shooting sports and go on a mini-boat ride with a Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division conservation ranger.

In addition, live animal presentations, face painting, solar viewing with the Atlanta Astronomy Club and exhibitors displaying wildlife-themed booths will be part of the festivities.

The first 500 kids will receive a free hot dog lunch and adults can eat for a nominal fee. Children under age 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

Participants are also invited to stop by the visitors center to tour the museum and visit the gift shop, which will offer discounts.
