Three of George Walton Academy's Majorette Squads traveled to Disney World earlier this year to compete in the international competition, Twirlmania. In addition to the many teams from all over the US, there were teams present from Japan, China, Russia, Great Britain and Canada. The youngest majorettes, the Mini Dawgs, won first place in their Halftime Show Division. The Dawgettes -- the third-, fourth- and fifth-grade majorettes -- won third place in their Dance Twirl Division, and GWA's Junior Varsity Majorettes won fourth place in their Halftime Show Division. Wallis Lucas competed individually for the first time and placed seventh in modeling, eighth in 2-baton and 11th in solo. Candy Byrd is instructor and choreographer for all of the squads. They also competed at the Miss Majorette of Georgia Competition earlier this year.
