CONYERS -- Sims Elementary School Principal Charisse Windom Gay will resign at the end of this school year.
The Rockdale County Board of Education approved her resignation earlier this month, effective June 30.
"It is with a heavy heart that I announce my resignation as principal," Gay said in a press release this week. "My decision to resign was made after long and careful consideration."
She provided no other information about her resignation.
"It has been a great privilege to serve the Rockdale County community in the capacity of principal, assistant principal, parent and community member," she said in the release. "It has been particularly gratifying to work with such a wonderful group of students, faculty, parents, colleagues and community partners."
Gay began working in Rockdale County Public Schools in July 2007. She worked for one year as assistant principal at C.J. Hicks Elementary School and four years at Sims.
"I will continue to work with the RCPS and SES team in upholding our mission and maintaining our focus on teaching and learning for the duration of the school year," Gay said in the release. "My support and guidance will be provided to the district and incoming principal to promote a smooth transition for our school community. I wish our school and county the very best as you continue to move forward to achieve great things."
