Rockdale tennis bounces back

On Monday, the Rockdale tennis teams struggled in 3-2 losses to Union Grove. But back home at the Rockdale Tennis Center on Tuesday, things went a bit better for the Bulldogs.

In Region 8-AAAA play against Cedar Shoals, the girls had no trouble in a 5-0 victory, while the boys won 4-1.

As has been the case for many of Rockdale's wins in 2012, dominant wins came from Nos. 1 and 2 singles players Shoman Kasbekar (6-0, 6-1 winner Tuesday) and Patrick Sanders (6-0, 6-0) in boy's play, and No. 1 singles Summer Walker (6-0, 6-0) and the No. 2 doubles team of Libby and Abby Bradford (6-0, 6-0) for the girls.

"To be able to count on those (players) 90 to 100 percent of the time is big, that means, 'Hey, we just have to find one win somewhere else,'" Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing said. "A lot of the other players have stepped up as well. The others are not too shabby either."

The supporting cast includes Trey Hull, who moved from No. 3 singles to team with Jason Lauritsen in a 6-1, 6-0 victory, and Anthony Adams and Abenet Addisu, who won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. For the girls, Bianca Brown (6-2, 6-3) and Alliyah Byrd (6-2, 6-4) won at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, while the No. 2 doubles team (Brooke Tryon and Gabby Church) picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
