COVINGTON -- Eastside's soccer team kept the day perfect sweeping Newton at Homer Sharp Stadium on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles blanked Newton 9-0 in a shortened game while Eastside's boys avenged a loss to the Rams earlier in the season with a 5-1 win.
Eastside's senior trio of Savannah Hill, Amber Lafond and Tara Harrison were responsible for eigh of Eastside's goals with Hill scoring the first one off a header frpm a Kari Dylong corner kick at the 34:28 mark of the opening half. Lafond made it 2-0 on a long-free kick with 31:32 on the clock. Less than a minute later, Harrison scored on a long shot from the top of the box off a ball from Lafond to put the Lady Eagles up 3-0.
Emily Carroll assisted Harrison on her second goal on a well struck shot that careened off a Lady Ram defender to put Eastside up 4-0. Eight minutes later Lafond put the ball in the back of the net off a well placed Harrison throw-in that split two Newton defenders. Lafond stretched the Eastside lead to 6-0 when she scored up the middle off a Hill ball. Hill added her second goal from short range 5:09 before the half off a cross from Sarah Gaddis to make it 7-0 at the half.
In a shortened second half, Hill scored another header on a corner kick off a ball from Harrison with Gaddis putting up the final goal with 3:08 remaining to complete the scoring. The Lady Eagles offense controlled the ball throughout with Newton only managing one shot in the match.
In the boys game, Jacob Alwes started the scroing with a goal halfway through the first half off a ball deflected by the Newton keeper. Alwes eventually scored a minute later to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Trent Taylor scored with less than 12 minutes left in the first half to make it 3-0. The Rams scored their only goal on a header off a cross with 3:55 left to make it 3-1 at the half. Taylor added two goals in the second half at the 15:27 mark and at the 3:22 mark to give the Eagles the four-goal win.
