The state winner for the 8- and 9-year-old girls, Unique Reed from Fairview Elementary School, won the Newton County Elks Hoop Shoot contest and received a medallion. She also won the Northeast District Elks Hoop Shoot and received a trophy. She went on to win first place in the state for her age group and received another trophy with a certificate. She will advance to the Southern Regional Elks Hoop Shoot competition in Valdosta on March 17 at Valdosta State College.The Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest supports the need for positive athletic activities. The contest instills all participants with traits that help them not just in athletics, but in life.
