Josh Bailey has picked up right where he left off in 2011.
The former Salem and Conyers Post 77 stand out, who was coming off an MVP performance in last year's Great South Athletic Conference tournament, has kept rolling in 2012.
Bailey, in his second year at Piedmont College in Demorest, is second on the team in batting average (.327) and on-base percentage (.493). Bailey has also clubbed two home runs, which for Piedmont, built on strong pitching, leads the team.
The Lions (13-4), who are ranked No. 10 in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25, had their four-game winning streak snapped by Marietta College recently. Piedmont hosted Rowan University on Thursday and will welcome back Marietta for the completion of the three-game series Saturday at 1 p.m.Local trio playing at AndrewA trio of former local baseball players now at Andrew College have had their ups and downs in the early going in 2012. Alcovy graduates Beau Thomas and Taylor Jackson, both in their second year in Cuthbert, and Nick Woodward (Heritage) in his first year at Andrew, have all been everyday players for the Tigers, but with mixed results.
Thomas, a left-hander, has struggled on the mound. In seven games (six starts), Thomas is 2-5 with a 6.32 ERA (22 ER), though in 31 innings pitched he has struck out 25 batters. Jackson has started all 22 games for the 9-13 Tigers and is hitting .243 (17 of 70) with a team-high seven doubles. Woodward, who transferred from Southern Union, has started 18 games and is hitting .265 (13 of 49) with a .373 on-base percentage.
Andrew hosted Wallace Community College in a doubleheader Wednesday and will welcome Macon State for another doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
