Staff Photo: Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith Newton County resident Pierce Burton helps his mom shop on opening day of the new Walmart Supercenter on Salem Road. The 170,000 square foot store is near the Rockdale County line and officials hope it will help keep tax dollars in Newton that are currently lost to Rockdale. The store is convenient for citizens of west Newton and east Rockdale. The store will employ about 280 and includes a food center with a bakery, deli, a Subway, hair salon and optical center.

Let the thieving begin!!!! I certainly hope they have those traffic lights in sync..but I forgot, Walmart traffic wont negatively impact the area according to their traffic specialist. Of course their specialist was someone sitting on the side of the road with a notebook counting the cars go by.
