McDONOUGH -- Eastside's baseball team flexed their offensive muscle while their defense held strong in their 8-3 Region 4-AAA win over Eagle's Landing on Monday.
Eastside (8-2, 3-0) pitcher Daniel Garrett led the defense on the hill giving up five hits in five innings of work with three coming in the first inning.
Eagle's Landing (0-7, 0-4) took advantage of their three hits in the home half of the first inning plating a run. But the home team was far from threatening as Eastside's offense gave Garrett a healthy margin in the top of the inning scoring five runs.
Getting the scoring started for Eastside was Joey Mitchell who hit a triple to plate Cody Walker who was walked to first base. Keith Buckhault reached on error, allowing Mitchell to score, followed by walks to Musashi Briem and Jerold Sumner. With bases loaded, Tre Sims hit a sacrifice fly to score Buckhault. Matt Hitchcock reached on a fielder's choice scoring Briem while Sumner ended up scoring on an error.
Eastside plated another three runs in their half of the fifth courtesy of a couple of Eagle's Landing errors and a squeeze play. Tyler Bailey assumed the pitching duties for the sixth and seventh inning. Bailey faced nine batters, striking out three and walking one as Eagle's Landing wound up scoring two unearned runs in the wet and sloppy conditions.
