The Rockdale baseball team had its two-game winning streak snapped Monday in McDonough, falling 8-2 to Eagle's Landing Christian Academy.
Led by another solid start from Young Harris College commitment Aaron Barfield (4 IP, 0 ER), the Bulldogs built a 2-1 lead. But the host Chargers stormed back with seven runs in the final two innings against the Rockdale bullpen.
"Played a good, solid game until (the) fifth and defense made a couple of errors on fly balls that let ELCA take the lead," Rockdale coach Justin Arrington said. "We are not in a situation, as is any team, to give the opponents extra outs. Barfield has been throwing well. He has been coming along; really looking for him to step up during region play."
Rockdale (3-3) has three days off before traveling to Winder-Barrow for both schools' Region 8-AAAA opener Friday at 5:55 p.m.
Salem soccer drops a pair
CONYERS -- Both the Salem girls and boys soccer teams dropped Monday games to Habersham Central in a doubleheader that was a make-up from a Feb. 24 rainout. The Habersham girls won 2-1, handing Salem its second consecutive loss after a 5-1 start. In the nightcap, the Class AAAA No. 5 Raiders picked up a 3-1 victory, Salem's fourth consecutive loss after a 3-1 start.
The schedule didn't get any easier for the Salem boys as they hosted No. 3 Starr's Mill Tuesday in Conyers. The Salem girls travel to Loganville on Friday.
