CONYERS -- Two Decatur men were arrested on marijuana charges even though both claimed the pot that police found in their car and in the pants pocket of one of the suspects did not belong to them.
A Conyers Police Department officer pulled over a car driven by Delmetrius Nathaniel Heard, 27, 1373 Cobb Branch Drive, Decatur, early Friday morning at Gees Mill Business Court. Mitchell Deangelo Heard, 22, of 2419 Aylesbury Loop, Decatur, was a passenger in the car.
When speaking with the occupants of the car the officer detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle. Delmetrius Heard reportedly consented to a search of the vehicle and his person. Police found two small plastic bags containing marijuana in the cup holder between the front seats. No drugs were found during a search of Delmetrius Heard.
When police searched Mitchell Heard they found a small plastic bag containing marijuana in the right rear pocket of his pants. Mitchell Heard reportedly said the pants he was wearing were not his pants.
Both men were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce. Delmetrius Heard was also charged for failure to maintain lane.
Both men were booked at the Rockdale County Jail and released on bond.
