The Rockdale baseball team blew out Douglass 13-0 Wednesday, behind four innings of one-hit ball from Phillip Anschutz.
The Bulldogs (3-2), who bounced back from a shutout loss to Peachtree Ridge with their second consecutive victory, got three hits and three RBIs from John Martin and two hits and three runs from Treyvon Schumpert.
Heritage couldn't capitalize on Ryan Gasque's complete game, four-hitter and 10-0 win over Walnut Grove earlier in the week and fell to Redan, 8-5 Wednesday. Luke Cathcart pitched four innings and allowed five earned runs, but left with the game tied 5-5. The Raiders scored three runs against the Heritage bullpen, including left-hander Joe Salvador, who took the loss.Rockdale girls tennis keeps winningIt'd been nearly a full year, but not much changed between the Rockdale and Lakeside-DeKalb girls tennis teams Wednesday at the DeKalb Tennis Center. Rockdale used a strong performance by No. 1 singles player Summer Walker to defeat Lakeside, 3-1 in a rematch of last season's Class AAAA first-round match, won by Rockdale. The sophomore Walker won 6-1, 6-1, then No. 2 Ciara Chesser (6-4, 6-2) and the No. 2 doubles team of Libby and Abby Bradford won 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the victory.
"Our girls team, we feel, is pretty strong. Right now we're pretty versatile," said Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing. "The girls we feel like, 'OK, now we're ready to compete.'"
Unfortunately for Rockdale, Wednesday's boys match also was a replay of last season's first round. Like it did at the Rockdale Tennis Center last April, Lakeside handled Rockdale, 3-1 with the only Bulldogs victory coming from No. 2 singles player Patrick Sanders.
"We're just trying to find some consistency," Sansing said of the boys team.
