CONYERS -- Rockdale County students will get to show off their art work this month.
Rockdale County Public Schools will hold its fourth annual Visual Arts Showcase beginning Monday at the Olde Town Gallery & Studio, which is located at 909 Commercial St. in Conyers.
"Each elementary, middle and high school will have student artists represented," said Katy King, the visual arts teacher at Davis Middle School who is helping organize the event.
An opening night event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the gallery.
"The Olde Town Gallery is currently closed, but they are allowing us to use their facility for this special event," King said. "We are very thankful for the continued support of the Olde Town Gallery for this event. It gives our student artists a proper place to exhibit their art work for the public to see."
About 300 pieces of art will be displayed in a variety of mediums -- oil, pastel, collage, photography, pen/ink, graphite, wood, ceramics, weavings, acrylic paint and water color, among others.
Elementary teachers selected six two-dimensional works and six three-dimensional works to represent the art programs at their schools; middle and high school teachers selected 12 two-dimensional works and 12 three-dimensional works to represent the art programs at their schools.
The event is being held in conjunction with Youth Art Month, which is held every March to emphasize the importance of quality art education for all children.
The art will be displayed at the gallery until Friday.
