Heard-Mixon Elementary School students, from left, Wesley Godbee, Michael Brewer, Edward Baynes and Metacilla Ross meet the Cat in the Hat, played by Lee Aldridge, during a celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday at the school on Friday. In honor of Dr. Seuss, who turned 108 on Friday, area schools and libraries held Read Across America Day events which included Cat in the Hat visits, book parades and guest-reader get-togethers.
