Newton County Chamber of Commerce members get lots of perks.
Member businesses and nonprofits benefit from customer referrals; free listings in an online business directory; links through the chamber website; networking opportunities; and assistance with ribbon cuttings.
Now, chamber members can take advantage of one more service -- Tagged on Tuesday.
The program invites Newton County Chamber members to supply the Newton Chamber staff with T-shirts representing their business. Staff members wear the T-shirts all day on a Tuesday giving the business exposure to the community in the process.
In addition, a photograph of chamber staff members wearing the T-shirts at the business is posted on Facebook and Twitter.
It's a way for businesses to promote their companies for free, said Newton County Chamber of Commerce Membership Director Lisa Baker.
"It's something to add value to our membership," Baker said.
The program started in December, and so far the chamber has helped give more visibility to businesses such as TexMex restaurant Bullritos, oil and lubricant wholesalers Amsoil, Johnny's Pizza, Ginn Motor Company and the nonprofit Habitat for Humanity.
The T-shirts act as both walking advertisements and conversation starters, especially if they are worn at a competing business, said Baker.
"It's been great. People are very interested," Baker said. The Newton County Chamber of Commerce has 492 members, ranging from small family-owned businesses to large corporations. Baker encourages all members to take advantage of the Tagged on Tuesday effort.
"It's a good way for us to get out and market your business for you," she said.
