CONYERS -- For those who would like a more contemplative way to observe the Fourth of July, the Walk of Heroes at Black Shoals Park will be open from 1 to 7 p.m.
According to Tommy Clack, who is working to promote the Walk of Heroes, Black Shoals Park is not typically open on Wednesdays, but he obtained permission from Rockdale County Commission Chairman Richard Oden to open the gate to the memorial for those hours. Only the memorial section of the park will be open and fishing in Black Shoals Lake will not be permitted on Wednesday.
The volunteer board for the Walk of Heroes will have a booth set up at the walkway entrance to the memorial, according to Clack, and will provide information on the future of the memorial and tours of the grounds. Information will be available for distribution.
