COVINGTON -- A 48-year-old Newton County woman has been arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle in the second degree in connection with the July 2011 crash involving the death of a motorcycle passenger, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Cathy Lynn Nolan of 3559 Salem Road, Lot 36, was booked into the Newton County Detention Center on June 5 and is facing charges of failure to yield right of way, failure to yield resulting in serious injury and homicide by vehicle in the second degree.
GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said the fatal crash occurred on Salem Road, south of Kirkland Road on July 23, 2011, about 7:30 p.m. Killed in the crash was Dianne K. Hickly, 64, of Covington.
"She was a passenger on a 2007 Honda Goldwing that was traveling northbound on Salem Road when Nolan's vehicle attempted to cross Salem from the Kroger shopping center to the entrance of Wagon Train Mobile Home Park," Wright said. "Nolan's 1998 Buick Lesabre hit the right side of the motorcycle."
The driver of the motorcycle, Robert Ernest Hickly, 68, also of Covington, was thrown from the motorcycle and taken to Walton Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
The crash has been under the investigation of the GSP's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team which resulted in charges against Nolan.
