COVINGTON -- A young teen was stabbed during a melee in the parking lot of the Communication Workers of America building on City Pond Road in the early morning hours Monday, according to the Covington Police Department.
The 16-year-old boy was among a large group of individuals who gathered around 1 a.m. in the parking lot apparently for the purpose of fighting. Several fights broke out and CPD officers arrived on the scene to disperse the crowd, unaware that a victim had been stabbed.
The young boy made his way to the Shell gas station at the intersection of Alcovy and City Pond roads where he made contact with a Newton County Sheriff's Office deputy and requested assistance.
He was described as "alert and talking, but had several lacerations/stab wounds on his torso and arm."
"The juvenile stated that he was in the fight at the CWA building, but had no idea who the people were that 'jumped' him," the incident report states. " ... EMS responded and treated the juvenile for three wounds on his right rear lower torso and right upper arm."
The young boy was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, accompanied by his brother who was also on the scene, but who said he did not witness the stabbing.
