This little piggy apparently went to market and got lost along the way. He's ready for a new home, but you won't need a collar and a leash. This female porker is named Rose and she has a lovely pink complexion and snow white hair. Bids are being accepted for her at Newton County Animal Control from now until noon on July 27. Newton County Animal Shelter is located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. What a cutie this little girl is. She's a Doxie-mix and believed to be about 3 years old. Weighing in at only 15 pounds, she's very sweet and loves to play. She gets along well with other dogs and would make a wonderful family pet. She can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-278-8403.

Questions to ask before adopting a pet:

-- Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?

-- Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?

-- Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?

-- Which pet is right for my home and my family?
