COVINGTON -- Newton Medical Center is alerting motorists that the Georgia Department of Transportation will be working in the area of the hospital beginning July 25, making several changes in traffic patterns.
"Several roads leading to and away from Newton Medical Center will be under construction," stated hospital spokesperson Linda Moseley in a press release. "The various road construction projects will affect the area around the hospital until approximately Sept. 1."
Motorists should expect that the intersection of Hospital Drive and U.S. Highway 278 will become right-turn only. Left turns across U.S. 278 will no longer be allowed.
"You will be able to perform a U-turn at the Adams Street intersection in order to drive westbound on Highway 278," Moseley said. "This is a permanent change. Should you prefer not to utilize the new right-turn only exit, you may enter or exit the hospital at the Mill Street traffic light via Tate Street."
Also, Moseley said Mill Street between Newton Drive and Floyd Street will be closed for construction and alternative routes should be taken.
"Motorists are asked to use caution, reduce their speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in all work zones," a GDOT spokesman warned.
