The Rockdale Riptides will be well-represented at this week's 14-under Long Course state championship. Five athletes from the local swim club will participate in the state event, which began Wednesday and runs through Saturday at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta.
Ryan Curry and Delaney Willette will lead the way as both swimmers qualified in nine events. Curry, a 12-year old, will swim in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 50 butterfly, while the 11-year-old Willette will compete in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley.
Thien-An Maynard and Marquese Tucker, a pair of 10-year-olds, will swim in a combined eight events. Maynard qualified in the 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley. Tucker will compete in the 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle.
Amanda Armstrong, a 12-year-old, will swim in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly.
