COVINGTON -- Parents needing to register their new students in Newton County public schools can do so at their assigned schools starting this week. Students who attended Newton County schools last year do not need to register.
From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Thursday, as well as July 23 through 26, parents can register their students at their schools, according to the Newton County School System website.
Parents must have the following documents to enroll their children:
-- Two proofs of residency, including a utility bill and a lease agreement or mortgage statement;
-- Parent/guardian photo ID;
-- Copy of child's birth certificate;
-- Copy of child's Social Security card or a signed waiver request;
-- Georgia certificate of eye, ear and dental examination from child's physician or health department;
-- Copy of child's most recent report card;
-- Copy of child's most recent withdrawal form;
-- Copy of child's test score result form;
Parents also must complete an 11-page student registration packet.
If applicable, parents or guardians also might need to provide proof of custody or guardianship; copy of child's special education records; copy of child's most recent discipline report for seventh through 12th grades
A registration packet is available in English and Spanish on the NCSS website, www.newtoncountyschools.org.
