COVINGTON -- Hard work and dedication made it possible for the Newton County Giants and All-Star Tee League baseball teams to defeat all comers, going a combined 19-0 for the 2012 season.
Head coach Jamison Brown took his Giants team to a perfect 14-0 before taking the All-Stars to a perfect postseason, going 5-0.
Playing for the Giants were Jaylen Brown, Jayden Barr, Otravion Benson, Nytravious Smith, Miles Hawkins, Isaiah Biggers, Devon Hardeman, Chaz Gary, Tyler Warren, Jehden Robinson, Brantley Parkman and Cameron Jones.
After winning first place in the regular season, Brown, who has been coaching at the Newton Recreation Department for more than nine years, was given the task of head coaching the Black Jersey Tee League All-Star team.
Brown and the Black Jersey team won every game in the Newton County Tee League All-star tournament to capture the first-place trophy. To make it even more spectacular, they won their last game on a sixth-inning walk-off grand slam by Robinson.Both teams' motto this year was "Hard work and dedication yields positive results" and that was exhibited by the kids, coaches, parents and supporters of both teams because it earned them an undefeated season. The Newton Black Jersey All-Star Team were J.D. Smith, Jaylen Brown, Hawkins, Biggers, Dew Cole, Brayson Osborn, Byron Johnson, Robinson, Damarco Lackey, Benson, Landon Harpe and Jordan Nolley.
