COVINGTON -- A Snellville man has died as a result of a motorcycle crash in Newton County Sunday, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Mark David Holland, 35, was thrown from his motorcycle around 8:25 p.m. while traveling on West Macedonia Church Road, just west of Byrd Road.
"The 2003 Harley being operated by (Holland) was westbound on W. Macedonia when it crossed the centerline, left the roadway on the south shoulder and struck a ditch with its undercarriage," said GSP spokesman Gordy Wright. "The motorcycle then overturned, hitting a guy wire and utility pole."
Wright said Holland was transported by ground ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center where he died later that night.
A Newton County Sheriff's Office deputy was first to arrive on the scene of the crash and according to his incident report the victim suffered extensive injuries to his face and head.
Wright said alcohol and drugs are suspected to be contributing factors in the crash.
