Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Awards
The Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce recognized five individuals and organizations Tuesday during their annual meeting for their work in improving life in the community through volunteerism, education and advancing business.
Boyle was recognized by the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce during the annual meeting held at the Georgia International Horse Park. The award is named for Barksdale who was a longtime community leader and former Chamber president.
Boyle, past chairwoman of the Hospital Authority of Rockdale County, is also a former member of the Board of Education, Board of Elections, Jury Commission and other boards over the past 40 years. She has also volunteered several organizations from the Good Shepherd Thrift Shop to RYSA and the American Cancer Society, among others.
In accepting the award, Boyle thanked her upbringing that taught her to help others, the decision to move to Conyers with her husband, Rockdale County Coroner Dr. Steven Boyle, and her family.

"Steven and I made a very smart decision to move to Rockdale County where newcomers are welcome. They want you to join, and they want you to be a part of the community," she said. "You can make a difference, even if it's a tiny difference, you can make a difference."

Brandi Wells received the James P. Culpepper Volunteer of the Year award for her work with supporting chamber programs and events.
Rockdale County Board of Education member Jean Yontz received the Community Spirit award for her efforts as a resident and businesswoman to make Rockdale County a better place to live.
The Veterans War Memorial Foundation received the Anne Waldrop Community Appearance award for the ongoing work to construct the Walk of Heroes Memorial in north Rockdale County.
Rockdale Medical Center received the Education Partner of the Year award for its continuing support of schools and teachers in Rockdale County.
Ron Simpson received the United Way Stepping Up to the Plate award for his work as chairman of Phoenix Pass to help those dealing with homelessness.
