Bernard Thompson and his Florida Gulf Coast teammates wrapped up a three-game road trip 2-1 and moved over .500 in conference play recently.
Thompson, a freshman guard from Rockdale, scored 10 points on 5 of 7 field goal attempts and handed out three assists, helping the Eagles knock off Stetson 92-85 and move to 5-4 in Atlantic Sun play. In 19 games (16 starts), Thompson leads Gulf Coast in scoring and steals, averaging 11.9 and 1.9, respectively.
The Eagles begin a three-game home stand tonight when they host Longwood in a non-conference battle.
GPC baseball season begins a week from today
Georgia Perimeter's junior college baseball team is set to open its 2012 season. The Jaguars, coming off the Region 17 championship, will host West Georgia Technical College in a doubleheader Jan. 31 at the school's Newton campus.
The brief home stand to start the season continues when Chattanooga State Community College travels to Covington for a doubleheader Feb. 4.
RYSA spring season approaching
Walk-in registration for the spring season at the Rockdale Youth Baseball Association continues this week through Feb. 4. Players can register from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, then again from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 31 and Feb. 2 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.
Tryouts will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 11 and the draft is scheduled for the following day from 1:30 until 5 p.m.
The spring season begins March 19.
