The Rockdale swim team finished seventh, just one point behind sixth-place Flowery Branch, at Saturday's North Georgia Regional Championships in Dalton.
The girls placed sixth and were just five points out of fourth, while the boys placed eighth, just a point behind seventh-place Clarke Central.
The Bulldogs had five top-five finishes, led by Amir Munajj placing second in the 50-freestyle (23.31) and fifth in the 100-freestyle (53.91). Kellie Fair was fourth in the 100-backstroke (1:11.44), while the boys 200-freestyle relay (1:39.01) and the girls 200-freestyle relay (1:54.32) both picked up fifth-place finishes.
"This is the closest you can get to the feel of the state meet before going there," said Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing of the event. "With (preliminaries) and finals, walkup songs, alternates, everything had the feel of state. Hopefully it got us in the right state of mind. We didn't get back until after midnight (Sunday), but it was worth it as these kids got a chance to see what a big-time meet is like."
