Ga. lawmakers return for chamber sessions

ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia state lawmakers will resume their floor meetings this week after crunching through Republican Gov. Nathan Deal's budget proposals.

Both the House and Senate are scheduled to meet starting Monday.

A joint committee of lawmakers spent the past week hearing from state officials, who described spending plans for this year and his $19 billion budget proposal for the fiscal year starting in July.

Democrats, who are outnumbered in the GOP-dominated House, will release their goals on Tuesday. And on Wednesday, lawmakers will get a briefing on the status of Georgia's court system.

Committees of lawmakers will also be reviewing Deal's proposed budget in more detail throughout the week.
