ATLANTA (AP) -- Powerful storms crossing Georgia are knocking out power lines and prompting weather alerts for severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes.
Georgia Power officials say about 3,200 homes were without electricity Saturday afternoon. Most of the blackouts were in metro Atlanta.
The National Weather Service had tornado watches in effect Saturday afternoon for much of central and southern Georgia. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Bulloch, Dodge, Randolph, Screven, Stewart, Sumter and Terrell counties.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that emergency officials in Coweta County reported heavy winds and rain damaged 10 homes but no injuries were reported.
Other areas reported golf ball-sized hail and downed trees. Flash flood warnings were issued in metro Atlanta.
