COVINGTON - Once again, Southern Heartland Arts Inc. is offering the chance to enjoy a bit of the ambiance of Monte Carlo without ever leaving Newton County.
The annual Monte Carlo for the Arts fundraiser will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Porterdale Mill Lofts. Sponsored by United Bank and Air Conditioning Specialist Inc., the event is the non-profit's only fundraiser and benefits instructional and scholarship programs.
Susan Wahl, the event finance chair, said the fundraiser is growing in attendance each year, and this year the goal is to raise $15,000.
Tickets are $50 per person, and the deadline to make a reservation is Jan. 27. To purchase tickets, call 770-788-8799 or drop by Southern Heartland Art Gallery on the Square at 1132 Monticello St.. Space is limited to 200 people, and about half those slots have been filled, Wahl said.
Tickets include two drinks, a dinner buffet featuring prime rib and lemon mushroom chicken catered by Jim Stalvey's Family Restaurants and raffle tickets.
Following social hour and dinner, a live auction will take place. Items up for bid will include rounds of golf, catered gourmet meals, weekend trips to various vacation destinations and a week on Florida's Gulf Shore.
Bids for a silent art auction will be taken throughout the evening as well.
Casino games will include blackjack and roulette, played with fake money that can be exchanged for raffle tickets to win a variety of prizes.
Southern Heartland Arts Inc. was incorporated in 1988 as a non-profit to benefit the visual arts. Programs include weekly classes for children and adults, summer camp, weekend workshops and a free weekly paint party for the community. The Cardinal Fund provides scholarships to local high schools for graduates interested in careers in the arts, as well as ongoing art classes for children whose parents need financial assistance and art summer camp scholarships.
