COVINGTON -- Keith Ellis is the first Republican candidate to announce a run for Board of Commissioners chairman.
A member of the Newton County Water and Sewerage Authority Board of Directors, Ellis said he will approach his campaign as if applying for a new job.
"If I am elected, I will dedicate myself to improving the quality of life in Newton County," he said in a press release. "I will roll up my sleeves and get to work building a better future for my children and the children of this county. I will serve with honesty and integrity, with no thoughts as to what I might gain from this office. I will work with the commissioners, knowing which issues to prioritize and which to set aside. I will respect the office and my fellow commissioners by maintaining a professional demeanor at all times and demonstrating impartial decision-making."
Ellis is a University of Georgia graduate with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture and a master's degree in education. He taught in Newton County public schools for 15 years. Following his teaching career, he operated a small business building custom homes and developing subdivisions. He currently works as an energy auditor and building analyst.
Ellis is hosting a meet and greet for the community Friday between 7:15 and 9:30 a.m. at Square Perk on the Square and said he will reveal more about his platform following that event. He encouraged citizens to view his Facebook page for more information.
