CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Gardner-Webb's Drew Ellwanger, an Eastside graduate from Newborn, has been selected as the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Men's Swimmer of the Week for meets competed Jan. 2-8, as announced on theccsa.com.
Ellwanger led Gardner-Webb with three gold medals in the 202-74 win over Darton College on Jan. 8. The junior swam the breaststroke leg of Gardner-Webb's first-place 400-yard medley relay that finished in 3:30.22, then followed with a win in the 50 breast, touching in at 26.61. He then garnered his third first-place finish of the day, the 150 breast, clocking in at 1:32.46.
With last week's performance, Ellwanger adds to what has been an impressive season thus far, which includes the CCSA's top time in the 100-yard breaststroke to date (56.40).
Ellwanger and the rest of the Runnin' Bulldog men will be back in action Jan. 19 at Limestone College. The Gardner-Webb women will next compete at Davidson on Saturday, Jan. 21.
