Creative Volunteers

Creative Ministries Thrift Store, 1279 Green St. in Conyers, is seeking donations of working appliances and furniture in good condition. Call 770-929-1000 for pickup of large items. Donations of clothing and small items may be dropped off at the store. The ministry assists troubled youth. Also, volunteers are needed to help receive, sort and price clothing two days a week. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Covington AA

The Covington Group-Alcoholics Anonymous meets seven days a week at noon, 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Serenity House, 10150 Atlanta Road in Covington. Newcomers are welcome. Call 770-289-2820.

Willing Helpers Food Pantry

Willing Helpers Food Pantry, located behind Solid Rock Baptist Church at 8111 Brown Bridge Road, is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. The ministry also supports a thrift shop and a free medical clinic for the uninsured. Special Needs Coaches

Rockdale County Therapeutic Recreation needs energetic, sports-minded individuals to help instruct and train youth and adults with special needs in sporting activities. The Olde Jail Museum

Low-impact fitness

The American Legion Post 77 in Conyers is signing up individuals interested in attending a low-impact exercise class starting in February. Mother’s Morning Out

Pet Food Drive

Rockdale County Animal Care and Control is collecting donations of canned dog and cat food, as well as used bath towels. The shelter is located at 1506 Rockbridge Road. Call 770-785-5927 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Attn. Veterans

To schedule a free van ride to the VA Hospital on Tuesdays or Thursdays when drivers are available, call Bobby Huggins at 770-787-7698 at least two days prior to any appointment.

Computer Recycle

Tech-Able in Conyers is an authorized Microsoft refurbisher and adheres to strict reformatting of systems to remove all data from the systems to protecting personal information. To make a donation of a used computer, all 770-922-6768 for eligible components, drop off information and next collection date.

Recycling

Newton County residents only may recycle household electronics, paints and dispose of pesticides on the first Saturday of each month. No TVs or commercial wastes accepted. The Newton County Landfill will accept these items from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 770-786-5808 for more information.

Clothes Closet

The Rockdale Community Clothes Closet is in immediate need of coats for children and adults. The Clothes Closet is located at 1050 Oakland Ave., Conyers, and are open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 770-483-4291 for more information.

Meals on Wheels

Kill-a-Watt Challenge

The Covington Branch of the Newton County library has a limited number of kilowatt meters, used to measure the energy consumption of appliances in houses. It is compatible with any electrical outlet and is used to access the efficiency and the actual consumption of standard appliance. Newton Library Wish List

The Newton County Library is seeking book donations through a wish list on Amazon.com. Readers can purchase a book on the wish list as a way to support the library and fellow readers. Use Amazon’s wish list gift card option to allow the library to place a book plate with your name, if desired. Donors also have the option to have the library hold the book for them when it arrives. Habitat for Humanity Conyers-Rockdale operates a surplus store, located at 1117 West Ave. in the Rockdale Plaza Shopping Center. Newton Reads

Literacy Action

Anyone interested in teaching an adult to read, please contact The Church at Covington at 770-786-7293, ext. 21. Child care will be provided for children, ages newborn through first grade.

Serenity Hospice

Serenity Hospice is seeking volunteers to provide companionship and support for terminally ill patients and their caregivers. Special Projects volunteers can contribute by making items, (blankets, knitting, etc.) or offering services (massages, cosmetology, maintenance, etc.). Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Nancy Guinn Library are accepting book donations at their location in the lower level of the Nancy Guinn Memorial Library, at 864 Green St. Clean books in good condition are requested. The entrance to the Friends’ bookstore is located in the rear, fourth door from the left corner of the building.

E-Cycle

Recycle household electronics and paint and dispose of pesticides the first Saturday of each month, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Newton County Landfill. Heartland Hospice

Heartland Hospice, formerly Portsbridge Hospice, is seeking volunteers to spend time with terminally ill patients. Training will be provided. Activities include listening, reading and praying or, if preferred, office or maintenance duties. Especially needed are donations of twin bedding and volunteers who can assist with office duties, mail-outs, filing and receptionist duties. Call 770-922-8767.
