Altercation leads to gun play on Dry Pond Road in Newton County

COVINGTON -- A 27-year-old Newton County man could very easily have died Tuesday night when he was shot in the head; however, he suffered only a "grazing wound," according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

NCSO spokesman Lt. Keith Crum said Jamie Trevor Lloyd, 22, of 1145 Gum Creek Trail was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting.

Crum said deputies were called to a residence on Dry Pond Road and when they arrived at the scene, they saw two men standing in a driveway.

"One of them said he had been shot in the head, but it turns out it was just a grazing wound," Crum said. "Through his statements and other witness statements, it was determined that a group of them went to a restaurant and returned to the residence after consuming alcoholic beverages. They said they were celebrating someone's birthday."

Crum said an altercation broke out and the victim suffered the gunshot wound. A black handgun was recovered at the scene.

The victim was treated and released from an area hospital.

22 years old maybe he is too young to drink and act like a civilized man. These young children get drunk and want to fight can we say REDNECK. Did they catch the punk that pulled the trigger. These kids should celebrate with a Barney party if they cant handle drinking
