AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say they arrested a man who was trying to steal liquor through the roof of an Augusta liquor store.
Richmond County Sheriff's Lt. Robbie Silas told The Augusta Chronicle (http://bit.ly/wwDkRv) that Deputy Wade Smith was conducting a routine patrol early Sunday when he noticed a man inside Mr. J's Liquor Store.
He called for backup and the officers surrounded the business and arrested 33-year-old Bobby Jackson. They say he attempted to flee by throwing bottles at the officer but that no one was hurt.
Police say Jackson had cut a hole in the roof of the store, causing at least $2,000 in damage. Authorities found several bags of bottles on top of the roof, which were recovered after Richmond County fire officials brought a ladder.
