Annual father-daughter ball is 'Puttin' On The Ritz'

CONYERS -- Though top hats and tails are optional, this year's annual father-daughter ball hosted by the Rotary Club of Rockdale County is sure to be super duper.

The ball is held each year to celebrate the special bond between fathers and daughters and is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Rockdale County. The theme for this year's ball is "Puttin' On The Ritz," and the event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Rockdale Career Academy.

Proceeds will benefit the Conyers/Rockdale Empty Stocking Fund and other community programs funded by the Rotary Club.

Started in 2007, the ball has presented fine dining, dancing and entertainment for fathers and daughters and has become more and more popular each year.

The annual event was created to give fathers a chance to spend a quality evening with their daughters. The themes for the ball each year have also given the event that touch of class and something special for the attendees.

The first ball was "The Prince and the Princess." Other ball themes included "Hollywood Nights," with all the trappings of a Hollywood movie premiere party, and "A Magical Night" where a magician provided entertainment for the evening.

Jim Calhoun of the Rotary Club said the ball is one of the biggest success stories of the club to raise money for community programs.

"I'm simply amazed at how popular it has become over the years," he said. "We know it's difficult for fathers to find activities to spend time with their daughters, and the Father-Daughter Ball provides that and more. It's just a fun evening for everyone."

Dinner will be prepared by RCA Culinary School students. The school has been recognized for its quality and service.

Tickets will be sold through Jan. 20 in order to have time to include each daughter's name on the back of a souvenir T-shirt. Tickets are sold in advance only and are $45 per father, $35 for the first daughter and $25 for each additional daughter.
