TUCKER -- Thanks to another stellar defensive performance, the Rockdale girl's basketball team got back to its winning ways.
Breanna Richardson scored 12 points, Tennessee State signee Brianna Lawrence added 10 points and six steals as Rockdale defeated Tucker, 48-35.
Rockdale (10-1), which last time out had its season-opening nine-game winning streak snapped in the championship game of the Peach State Holiday Invitational, bounced back by holding an opponent to 36 points or less for the sixth time.
"I was very proud of them; I'm excited about it," first-year Bulldogs coach Sherri Williams said. "Coming off our first loss ... but they came back and settled down (Tucker was) a solid team."
While the combination of Lawrence and Richardson continued to lead the Conyers school, the play of Kree Clark (nine points, 17 rebounds) and one of the toughest defenses in Region 8-AAAA helped lead to the road win Tuesday.
"(Lawrence and Richardson) have a good chemistry together, they know where each other is going to be on the court (but) I came with some different offense as well as some different defenses," Williams said. "(Defense is) our strength and we keep improving every game, the games are getting more competitive. That's what we've been doing from day one, taking these games (and) evaluating them and improving our defense."
The Rockdale boys were trying to snap a two-game losing streak when they played Tucker in the nightcap, which ended too late for this edition.
