COLLEGE PARK, Ga. (AP) — Residents of a condominium complex outside Atlanta say they face eviction unless they can come up with thousands of dollars for a water bill.
Ron Johnson, interim president of the Yorktowne Home Owners Association in College Park, tells CBS Atlanta that residents "are in a desperate situation."
College Park officials say the complex has run up a more than $300,000 water bill in the past eight years. CBS Atlanta reports the city wants $56,000 by Tuesday morning or the water will be turned off.
Johnson said the large bill is due to an undetected water leak, which has since been fixed.
The home owners association plans an emergency meeting Monday night to discuss the situation. Some condo owners say they plan to seek donations from local businesses.
