Newton Citizen
Staff photo by Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith Mel is looking glamorous in what appears to be tuxedo-like attire thanks to her black and white markings. She's believed to be a cattle dog-mix and not yet a year old. She was picked up as a stray and will weigh bout 40 pounds when fully grown. Look for her on petfinder.com. She can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-278-8403.
Questions to ask before adopting a pet:
-- Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?
-- Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?
-- Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?
-- Which pet is right for my home and my family?
