Walter Eubanks, Jr., formerly of Conyers, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the age of 89. Walter was born on Oct. 7, 1922 in Decatur, GA. He is survived by daughters Montie Jo & Butch Davies, Conyers, Dale & Richard Bradford, Conyers; son, Allen & Patricia Eubanks, Dahlonega; sister, Betty Easley, Perry; grandchildren, Patrick Eubanks, Allison Goggans, Jodie Anderson, Katie Klinker, Jennifer Buzby; great-grandchildren, Jess Eubanks, Rebecca Eubanks, Preston Goggans, Eliot Goggans, Charlsie Anderson and Wright Anderson. Walter attended Decatur High School and in 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater where he remained for the rest of WWII. In 1946, upon release from active duty, he married Catherine Morrison of Decatur and they remained married for 62 years until Catherine’s death in 2008. In 1952 Walter was recalled to the Navy to fight in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Upon Walter’s return from Korea, he and Catherine moved to their first farm in Henry County. From then on they always lived on a farm, although outside employment was often necessary. In 1979 Walter and Catherine became full-time farmers with their move to a cattle farm near Summerville, GA. Walter enjoyed farming, and as a mechanic, he never seemed happier than when his tractor broke. He and Catherine also loved to travel, and took yearly camping trips through the Grand Canyon, as well as trips on other rivers. One of their more memorable trips was a six week camping trip through Alaska. Walter was a generous and gentle man who most of all enjoyed being with his wife, Catherine. A private graveside service for family will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery in Newnan with Rev. Mark George officiating.
