MILTON, Ga. (AP) -- A 46-year-old Milton man was charged with shooting his teenage stepson to death after an argument, authorities said Sunday.
Eric Brandon was arrested and charged with his 16-year-old stepson's killing after a fight at their townhouse in the north Atlanta suburb, said Milton Police Capt. Shawn McCarty. He said no other family members were there when the shooting took place.
The teenager, whose name was not immediately released, was shot three times with a 12-gauge shotgun after the argument, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, McCarty said.
Neighbors said the subdivision was soon surrounded by police and firefighters. Brandon was arrested and was to be questioned by Milton investigators.
It was not immediately known whether he had a defense attorney, and messages to the family on Sunday were not returned.
Khalid Bouanani, a neighbor, said Eric Brandon was a hard worker who once served in the military and spent much of his time in his townhouse.
"He never went outside," he said. "He never really meets with the people around here."
Neighbors described the community, located about 30 miles north of Atlanta, as a quiet and affordable enclave in an otherwise expensive district.
"I didn't tell my kids what happened," said Mohammadullah Rahimi, who lived down the street from the Brandon family. "They don't know what's going on. I think it will scare them. We're not used to this."
