Bailey Ferguson shows off a monster catfish he caught in a private lake in western Rockdale County recently. The catfish weighed in at about 28 pounds.
His father, Daryle Ferguson, was there when Bailey, 14, made the big haul.
His grandfather Bill Ferguson said Bailey is a natural fisherman and is an experienced ocean and freshwater angler.
The catfish was the largest Bailey has caught in freshwater. Bill said they threw the catfish back in the lake.
The overall state record for a catfish is 83 pounds for two flathead catfish caught in the Altamaha River in Wayne County in 2006 and 2010.
There are five varieties of catfish found in Georgia, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
