Feb. 12 Newton Phone Poll

"It is very sad that there seems to be an epidemic of stealing within the schools. Teachers want the students to have books to read in class but so far I have had to pay for several that walked away. Gym clothes, locks, index cards, lunch, pens and pencils, anything and everything and for little to no reason except they get away with it with no repercussions. You can believe the students and teachers know some of the ones lifting things but with no support system in place, (strong administration), what can be done? These are the same kids at Wal-Mart walking out with pockets full and these will be the ones that will go to prison or end up dead because they think it's a game and they will never be punished for the crimes. Right now, in school, they are learning crime does pay. Children need to get caught and parents need to be informed. If your child comes home with an ipod and you didn't buy it, find out where they got it!"----

"I was calling wondering why in Sunday's Feb. 5th paper there wasn't anything in there about the Georgia football players that robbed them people. If they had been Tech players they probably would have been on the front page."----

"I see on TV where Eddie Long was wrapped in that Torah. My take on it I fully, fully understand wolf in sheep clothing now."----

"This is for the Georgia fans who hate Tim Tebow. My question is how can you hate a man of his caliber and love people that go around stealing. I don't know I think you got it twisted."----

"I have a complaint about the paper. Why is it I haven't seen any write up on the high school recruits that Tech signed and I have seen two different ones about Georgia. Give me a break."----

"I do not understand why a high school promotes a 'partnership with parents' to improve the school would wait to let their 'partners' know seven days there is a problem. I Guess the only thing they want their 'partners' to know is when it is a self promoting event or when we changed the menu in the lunch room from fish sticks to chicken fingers. Then we get an 'On tomorrow we will have chicken fingers in the lunch line instead of fish sticks.' Yes, we get those every week on the answering machine but we wait seven days until the problem is out of hand to send that message. To the BOE we are tired of this. Change or be changed."----

"I have come to the conclusion that Gingrich is on Obama's payroll, because all the president has to do to guarantee a second term is not to spend a dime on any TV or radio ads is to just run the ones that Newt has created. A win is a sure thing no matter who the GOP candidate is. The two top GOP'ers have savaged each other so bad that the only way I could not hold my nose and vote DEM is if the ballot could finally have a choice of 'None of the Above.' Then I could change my name to None of the Above and win 85 percent of elections in the country."

Let me state up front that I am not married to my cell phone and have prayed for years that talking on cell phones when driving should be illegal every where. What I have a problem with is the banning of cell phones at the county courthouse for the general public but LEO and Lawyers get a free pass. I guess it's like the tinted windows law where Joe Citizen get's a citation but when LEO ride by you are unable to tell how many people are in the vehicle. No wonder people are losing respect for authority. I don't have a criminal record, I am gainfully employed and am a veteran of the Viet Nam era, so before some self righteous person respond that I must have something to hide or have an agenda aginst those of authority, I don't.

State law provides that law enforcement vehicles may have dark tint for good reason, they don't like to be targets. The only reason that the public is not allowed to have dark tint, is because of officer safety. Officers MUST be able to see what's going on inside of a vehicle. What reason would you or any other citizen have for knowing what's going on inside a police vehicle? Window tint and cell phones in court, is that all you really have to be concerned with? You need a life, sir......

When and how often has LEO been shot at while riding down the Hwy iin Newton County or the city of Covington? I do have many concerns and plan on sharing them in the future. As for what my or any other citizen concern with what's going on inside a police vehicle? Big Brother wants to keep an eye on me, I want to be able to see back. If being a target is the reason, why aren't all patrol cars equipped with blackened windows? You have to come with a better answer than I need a life. I guess a case can be made for the public in general being able to darken their windows since a young woman was gunned down while driving down the street last Friday. Do as I say and not as I do......

Covingtonian,..... mustardandbiscuit has the right answer but I can tell you're a person who's not one to be swayed by the facts. Fact is, most law enforcement cars would have dark tint but for one thing......money. That tint is not free and they operate on a limited budget from tax dollars. As for your resentment of LEO and Lawyers having access to cell phones in the courthouse and you can't, why limit your focus on just that? Why shouldn't you be able to carry your weapon in if those LEO'S are totin' theirs? Shoooot, i'm sure you want to be able to shoot at them if they're shootin' at you! I can't wait to hear your future concerns posted. Your views are very interesting. You don't mind, even pray, that your right to talk on a cell phone in a car will be taken away but you have a problem with dark tint being illegal for Joe Citizen.
