OXFORD -- Three Oxford College students were held at gunpoint and robbed by two black males on the college campus in the early morning hours Thursday.
Newton County Sheriff's Office Lt. Keith Crum said the three male students were walking in the vicinity of Hamill Street shortly after midnight when they were approached by the two suspects on foot.
Crum said the robbers pointed a gun at the students and demanded their personal items, including two iPhones valued at $300 each, a pack of Camel cigarettes, a wallet and a Boston Celtics ball cap.
The suspects' faces were covered, and the students were unable to give a description of the robbers other than their clothing. In addition, no description of the gun was given.
The suspects reportedly fled on foot in the direction of an apartment complex on Moore Street.
The students notified an Emory Police officer, who called the NCSO.
Crum said none of the students was injured in the robbery. He noted that this was an unusual occurrence on the historic college campus.
"This is the first one I'm aware of that has occurred on the Oxford campus," he said.
In other police news, a student at Newton High School faces drug and weapons charges after an administrator found the student in possession of marijuana and a pair of brass knuckles Monday.
The male student, who was not identified due to his status as a juvenile, was turned over to Juvenile Court Services.
In a separate incident, a male student at Eastside High School was charged with violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act Monday after an administrator found a homemade bong containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana during a search of the student's gym bag. The bong was described as a Gatorade bottle and an aluminum can taped together with electrical tape.
According to the NCSO incident report, a teacher observed the student and another male student in the gym in a "suspicious situation."
Both students denied that anything was exchanged between them in the gym.
