Thank you for the article about Cobb EMC withdrawing support for the infamous Washington County coal fired plant. As a Snapping Shoals EMC member, I am outraged that the board has arrogantly decided to continue its support through the use of our money.
All across the country coal plant construction is being abandoned. First is the concern that coal plant emissions present documented health hazards. In addition, there is the decline in energy use. Next is the expense of constructing such a hazard. When this plant was first proposed four years ago, the customer base of all participating EMCs was 741,000 with a cost to each member of $67. With the withdrawal of Cobb and other EMCs, the cost of plant construction increases to $12,575 per member.
I don't know about you, but I can't afford that, especially as we have replied to each Snapping Shoals request to participate in alternative energy projects and never been contacted.
We need a board that is a better steward of our money.

Pretty obvious the board of directors of Snapping Shoals EMC are not directing, but being directed.
