Newton Chamber hosts franchising seminar

COVINGTON -- If you think opening a franchise is the right career move for you, but you don't know where to start, you may want to consider attending the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce's upcoming Franchising 101 seminar.

The free event is open to everyone and will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Hampton Inn, located at 14460 Paras Drive, NE in Covington.

The seminar will be led by Theresa Barber, a consultant with FranChoice, a national franchise consulting company that offers free services for qualified individuals looking for franchise opportunities.

Barber said people tend to think of franchising in relation to fast food, but all types of businesses use franchising, from home cleaning to healthcare to real estate. The seminar will cover everything from the types of franchises available in the area to how to investigate a franchise to determine if it's a good fit to financing, Barber said.

Franchising is increasingly being considered as an option by would-be business owners who want more control over their careers in this uncertain economy, Barber said.

"People want more control in their own lives and are looking for their own business but don't know what to do and don't have a specific idea or a specific trade, so franchising helps them get involved in their own business," Barber said.

The Chamber is asking anyone interested to reserve a spot by calling 770-786-7510. Barber said she would talk one-on-one with anyone who is interested but can't attend the seminar. She can be reached at 678-513-5696 or at TBarber@Franchoice.com.
