The Newton County Sheriff's Office provides School Resource Officers to each high school and middle school in Newton County. The following is a list of reports filed by these officers that have been received this week by the Newton Citizen:
ALCOVY HIGH SCHOOL
-- On Dec. 11 around 7:15 a.m. two female students were involved in a verbal altercation that became physical while waiting for the bus on Tara Way. They were referred to the school resource officer.
-- On Dec. 18, a student reported his iPod was stolen out of his jeans. It was later recovered and returned to the owner.
NEWTON HIGH SCHOOL
-- On Nov. 15, around 3:50 p.m. while doing after school bus traffic detail at NHS, the resource officer was informed that a student was hit by another student while at the bus ramp. The offender was charged with simple battery.
-- On Dec. 18, an assistant principal informed the resource officer that a threatening message had been discovered written on a restroom wall. The message was removed by a custodian.
-- On Dec. 18, the school resource officer learned of a student being in possession of a stolen item. The student was advised to come to the school and return the item. He was arrested and charged with theft by receiving.
-- A student told the resource officer on Dec. 18 that someone had stolen his Dr. Dre Beats headphones, which were black with a red B, valued at $300, and his black fourth generation Apple iPhone, valued at $200, out of his book bag in the gym.
