Newton County Fire Service firefighters were called to a blaze in progress at a house located at 170 Avery Drive around 8:30 Friday morning. NCFS Fire Chief said the house had been vacant about two years and had been vandalized during that time. The cause of the fire is being listed as "undetermined" and a further investigation will ensue. When neighbors placed the call to 911, they had seen flames and by the time firefighters arrived at the scene there were flames coming through the roof. O'Brien said the house, probably valued at $100,000 to $120,000, would be a complete loss. Avery Drive is off Ga. Highway 162, South. - Special photo by Steven Wise
