COVINGTON -- The Covington Police Department has announced that Pacho's restaurant and several businesses in the shopping complex located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 278 and Turner Lake Road were evacuated around 3:30 p.m. Friday after a vehicle struck a gas valve located behind the restaurant.
According to CPD Public Information Officer Ken Malcom, Covington Fire Department and staff from the city of Covington utilities department were on the scene and the valve was quickly turned off.
"The area of most concern was the restaurant itself because the line fed into that store. We evacuated it and are not allowing people to congregate around the front or the back of the area until it is cleared," Malcom said.
He said the situation is under control and business is expected to resume as normal by 5 p.m.
