COVINGTON — The Covington Police Department has made an arrest in the shooting of a 22-year-old man at the intersection of Turner Street and Nixon Circle Tuesday night.
Dandre Duran Browner, 23, of 3105 Hendrix Circle, has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He turned himself in to law enforcement officers Wednesday night.
The victim is in an Atlanta trauma center listed in critical, but stable, condition and is expected to recover, said CPD Public Information Officer Capt. Ken Malcom.
“I was told none of the wounds appeared to be life-threatening,” he said.
Neither the victim nor the suspect are residents of the Covington Housing Authority where the shooting took place around 8 p.m. “near the street in a grassy area,” according to Malcom.
A man flagged down a CPD patrol unit upon discovering the victim. The officer found the victim laying on the ground face first and notified emergency medical services.
Malcom said it is unknown at this point whether the victim was shot five or seven times.
“I know that sounds strange, but some of the wounds may have been entry wounds, exit wounds and then re-entry wounds,” Malcom said.
Malcom said it is unknown what the motive of the shooting was, as both suspect and victim are reluctant to talk to authorities.
“There was some kind of dispute, but we are yet to identify the source of the conflict,” he said, adding the case is still under investigation.

Like Larry the Cable guy says, "I don't care who you are that's funny!"

I found it more than a little interesting that neither the victim nor the perp were residents of the housing authority. Some would like to believe just because the incident happened in the area that this should have been expected i.e. "water is wet". If you watch the nightly news you will see that violence can and does strike in any neighborhood and across all economic boundaries.

Please. They weren 't residents because everyone knows you have to go to the projects to get the best drugs.

There is never anything that is funny about a shooting and if you think so then you are part of a community problem. Try substituting one of your loved ones name in the place of those involved and then see the entertainment value.

None of my family members would ever be involved in a "conflict" in or around the Housing Authority involving a firearm so substituting their names in this story just doesn't work. Sorry.
